Making plans for Fort Dodge: Class 1A Edition

The state’s lone unbeaten team and defending champs have advanced to the state tourney. Monday,  the first round of tickets were punched to Fort Dodge to play next week in the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State Softball Tournament.

Iowa Public Television will broadcast the 1A finals on Friday, July 25th at 10A. I will have your call with Laura Leonard. You can watch on the air or online at http://www.IPTV.org that day.

These are some beginning notes that have strong help from the IGHSAU.

2014 1A State Tourney Field

At Cherokee #1 Akron-Westfield 6,  Newell-Fonda 2. 1A defending champs Akron-Westfield will be in Fort Dodge to defend its crown. A-W is the state’s lone unbeaten.

At Oskaloosa #2 Lynnville-Sully 11, HLV 1 (6) No. 2 Lynnville-Sully earns a 4th trip to State Softball in four years.  Hawks also qualified in basketball.

At Parkersburg #4 AGWSR 9, Don Bosco 5. AGWSR finished 3rd in 2A last year. The Cougars are State SB bound for the 2nd time

At Chariton #5 Wayne 14, Mount Ayr  2 (3). Falcons return to Rogers Park for the third time in five years.

At Greenfield #6 Martensdale-St. Marys 3, #8 Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton 0. 7th straight year at state for MSM with 3-0 win over Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton.

At Wilton #11 Marquette Catholic 3, #3 New London 0.  Second trip to Fort Dodge in 3 years for the Mohawks.

At Cresco (NR) Kee 12, #12 Mason City Newman Catholic 0 (5)  Hawks earn its 2nd-ever trip to Fort Dodge. First trip since 2002.

At Battle Creek (NR) Glidden-Ralston 6, #13 Remsen St. Mary’s 2. First-ever trip to State for the Wildcats.
